Beyond Twilight

My dark wool sculptures, Awakening Truth, Beyond Twilight, and
Initiation, are inspired by documentaries about extraterrestrial life and books on fungi in space. I learned that thousands of meteorites hit planet Earth every year, and scientists hypothesize that the extraterrestrial materials carried by these meteorites may have influenced the development of our early DNA. I find this idea fascinating, as it is still much debated among scientists. In response to this concept, I created my interpretation of birthing pods that represent the union of Mother Nature with an Alien Entity.
The shapes of Awakening Truth, Beyond Twilight, and Initiation, are inspired by the galls found on tree trunks, which are caused by insect feeding or egg laying. Their pod/nest-like characteristics and dark essence relate to my exploration of how forests—often viewed as symbols of Mother Nature—embody a duality of wickedness and seduction in literature, myths, legends, and tales. This is particularly relevant when viewed through a feminist lens, highlighting its influence on our current psychological relationship with nature.
My dark wool works mark a significant technical evolution in my
sculptural portfolio, as I developed my own technique for constructing the wool forms, which I describe as "pressure stitching without using thread."
