Eye of the Temptress

Pool of Knowledge, Eye of the Temptress and Growth celebrate the colour green, a colour that is synonymous with Nature and yet so difficult to truly capture. From being a symbol of ‘fertility’ and ‘abundance’, through a slight change of tone, green can quickly become associated with something ‘poisonous’ and ‘unstable’. This mutability is closely linked to my explorations into the social and spiritual ideologies of Mother Nature, in particular the juxtaposition of her power to give birth and end life through disease or harsh conditions.
From a visual and textural perspective, I always intend to create
tension between the viewer and the artwork by building a desire for people to not only want to look but also connect with the object on a physical and/or spiritual level. The desire to have, to possess, and ultimately obsess over is strongly built into all of us. It is these desires that have helped us to evolve and become almost 'untouchable’ in the animal kingdom and yet in many ways, it is these same desires that will surely mark our final downfall as a species.
